Restoring with Fillings
Patients have many choices of restoration materials today. We generally restore with material that strengthens teeth.
This “composite” or “resin” material is the natural color of your teeth. Interestingly, the reason we usually restore with tooth-color resins is not because they’re tooth-colored, but rather because their properties allow conservation of tooth structure and bonding of remaining tooth structure together.
Some employees and patients in our practice currently have silver-mercury fillings in their mouths. When these black fillings start to crumble around the edges, the more common choice is made to strengthen the teeth with new bonded, invisible restorations.
